Big, dumb robots fighting monsters movie is both big and dumb. My 11 year old and his buddy loved it. I didn’t think it was horrible. There was just a bunch of dumb stuff in it.
HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles

It’s one of those sequels you know just won’t be as good as the original. On the other hand is robots fighting giant monsters, it’s just gratuitous fun.

Somewhat related, watched this yesterday on Netflix. Thought it was decent. Part of a trilogy apparently

Exactly. It wasn’t as well written and the situation seemed forced, but who cares?

For some reason my wife loved the original. I had a hard time suspending disbelief. I could accept giant robots fighting giant monsters. But when they took a turbine engine that was clearly operating near meltdown and dunked it under water and it kept running - well, that was a step too far. I’m not sure that I even want to see the sequel. It looks like it’s just a bigger, dumber version of the original.

Was a decent watch, I’m calling it now that the series will include the humans reactivating Mechagodzilla.

That’s because Gipsy Danger is Analog, not digital duh!

Not even the same director, which is a huge letdown. I’ll still go see it though.

I liked it for nothing other than the giant mech suits and questionable subsystems. It’s no gundam, but it’s better than just a helicarrier.

We talked about that. Why wouldn’t you have systems to help a single pilot get the suit back in an emergency situation. How hard would it be?

Moreso with fly-by-wire and embedded neuro systems, why does the cockpit need to be so large?? It’s not like they’re commanding a space frigate

Loved that. And the end titles song is fucking lit, as the kids say.

I love the first one. Del Torro said he wanted to make an homage to all the classic giant monster movies from the past legends like Harryhausen and the Japanese legend who I don’t know the name of.
Yes, as you say, both are big, dumb movies. But that is entirely the point. The only way these can be failures is if they did not feature giant robots fighting giant monsters. Plot holes? Who cares. Just watch the pretty colors then.
This movie was equally as fun. I hope it blows up the ticket booths in China. I want to see another one.

I agree. It is interesting to see the Chinese influence on big budget action movies. It changes the tone a bit and that is ok.
